Spend for the problem you have
For the opening, the source compares 300 for another placement with 700 to reach level two. Another unit can cover a different part of the lane; upgrading can help a packed group survive fewer attacks. The useful choice depends on where enemies escape, rather than damage alone.
Reported level four increases damage to 250 and range to 15. Level five keeps reported damage at 250 while range expands to 20. That final spend may help when escaped targets are leaving range; do not assume the listed damage increases again.
The attack is described as a forward cone: aim for a lane segment where grouped targets pass through that cone. A circle of range does not mean the attack hits every direction at once.
Keep the disputed fields separate
The middle levels' reported arithmetic is consistent: 75 / 0.4 = 187.5, 150 / 0.4 = 375 and 250 / 0.3 ≈ 833.333 DPS. Those fields are retained.
